While some who watched (or lived through) the aftermath of Katrina wrung their hands and cursed a government that couldn’t protect them from all dangers big and small, the lesson that most Americans took away from Katrina was that taking personal responsibility for our own safety and the safety of our families could have a more reliable outcome than simply counting on the cavalry to ride over the hill just in the nick of time.
This course will help you in developing a Personal- and Home-Protection Plan, teach you Self-Defense Firearms Basics, and cover basic shooting fundamentals. This course will cover what happens during Violent Encounters, the Aftermath of these encounters, as well as the Legal Use of Force in reacting to such encounters.
The included real-world self-defense scenario training is designed to improve your mindset and skills, regardless of experience level or background, in a safe and controlled environment. You can practice making split-second decisions, which will help you to understand the legal use of force. This is one of the most practical and effective ways to recognize when — or if — the use of deadly force is justified. Test your knowledge and learn from realistic situations that you could encounter in your daily life. Simulation training scenarios activate students’ mental and physical responses to mimic real self-defense scenarios, giving you a deeper understanding of how you’ll react under pressure.
After completion of the course, you will receive a certificate of completion making you eligible to apply for a Minnesota Permit to Carry a handgun. Expect to spend at least five hours in the classroom. I encourage you to ask questions and provide input/participate in the class experience. After the classroom session, the law requires that all permit candidates must pass a shooting proficiency test. You will also have hands-on weapons familiarization in the classroom utilizing an advanced Firearms Laser Training Simulator System. You will be evaluated on proficiency and safe handling of the handgun.
